Conquer Your Battlefield Podcast – Interview with John DeFaria | Imposter Syndrome

Welcome to the “Conquer Your Battlefield” podcast, where we come together to discuss some of the more significant struggles, and metaphorical battlefields, that we’ve faced along our journeys, and share some insight on how we’ve conquered them.

I’m your host, JD McGibney, and today I’ll be chatting with a modern guitar virtuoso, whose repertoire is so eclectic that it includes playing for and writing with Gloria Estefan, touring directly in the Danger Zone with Kenny Logins, and even working on the soundtrack for the horror film Orphan. Allow me to introduce John DeFaria!

Today we are going to be talking about Imposter Syndrome. Imposter Syndrome, for those who are not familiar, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is a psychological condition that is characterized by persistent doubt concerning one’s abilities or accomplishments accompanied by the fear of being exposed as a fraud despite evidence of one’s ongoing success.

According to a published review of public data found on the National Library of Medicine website, a review of over 30 studies including a sampling of over 11,000 people, Imposter Syndrome affected about 62% of those studied. The data review also found that physicians tended to have an 80% higher chance of experiencing symptoms of Imposter Syndrome.
